Reviews
“Stories to Tell/Sweet Salvation e.p. reviewed by Frank Kocher “Stories to Tell/Sweet Salvation is the latest from local San Diego country/roots singer-songwriter Christy Bruneau. The four-track EP picks up where her award-nominated 2010 CD Somewhere in the Middle left off, with bright and compelling songs sung in a sweet but strong voice.”

“Somewhere in the Middle” – San Diego Troubadour reviewed by Frank Kocher “Fans of country-rock and female vocalists should find much of interest on Somewhere in the Middle. This aptly named crossover-style disc shows that Christy Bruneau has written some good music and promises to do more of the same.”
Nowontour.com reviewed by David Strickler “Upon first hearing singer/songwriter Christy Bruneau, she sounds like a cross between Natalie Merchant and Jewel. After spending just over 23 minutes listening to her debut CD however, the listener realizes that her style and playing are very much her own…There seems to be more angst to manifest in a song, and I, for one, would like to hear more.”
“Angels of Mercy” with The Unknown Poets – The San Diego Reader reviewed by Mary Montgomery. “Christy Bruneau’s music relies on dichotomies:her vocals are polished, but guitar work edgy; there is an air of sweetness, but the sultry vocals suggest otherwise…stinging melodies of (songs) “Walk With Me” and “Simple Faith” highlight Bruneau’s songwriting.
Biography
Phoenix, Arizona native and two time San Diego Music Award nominee Christy Bruneau wrote her first song at 23. Hooked on songwriting Bruneau uprooted and relocated to San Diego, California eventually landing herself just a couple blocks from the infamous Java Joe’s in Ocean Beach where she joined the stage with other aspiring singer-songwriters Jason Mraz, Anya Marina, and more as well as opening for touring acts such as Xavier Rudd and The White Buffalo.
Over the last decade Bruneau continued writing songs and performing as well as recording with local musicians. She recorded her first CD Angels of Mercy by The Unknown Poets, which brought her success with song placement in films as well as a singing role in the film L.A. Twister. Bruneau’s 2nd CD Somewhere in the Middle released in 2010 brought her a nomination for Best Local Recording in the 2010 San Diego Music Awards and can be heard on KPRI’s Homegrown Hour in San Diego, Meer Radio’s Good Noise in the Netherlands, and Pandora.
Most recently Christy was nominated for Best Acoustic in the 2011 San Diego Music Awards as well recorded four songs for her third album Stories to Tell/Sweet Salvation, a series of songs about her own life and stories from her grandmother’s life, which are now available in an e.p on itunes.
